6 Winter Makeup Tips To Keep To Glowing This Season – Glowalley – Beauty Tips | Skincare Tips

With the arrival of winter, many of us may spot changes in our skin. Winters can cause numerous skin problems like dry, cracked, itchy, and flaky skin resulting in dull complexion and redness. As cold winter approaches, blood circulation reduces, and capillaries get enlarged, causing severe skin problems. The constant dry skin makes us rethink our daily makeup routine. Some winter makeup tips are needed to be included to make our best appearance during this weather,

You must stick to a regular skincare regime during this season to prevent the skin from any kind of damage and infection and stay beautiful and evergreen even during the harsh winters.

It’s the dream of every woman to have soft, smooth, and glowy skin that feels good to the touch and to make it feel hydrated and nourished. You must switch your skincare to a good moisturiser and serum. Moisturiser will promote nourishment and good blood circulation resulting in fresh and healthy glowing skin.  You can also boost your skin health with homemade winter skincare tips: Homemade packs for dry skin in winters

    Winter Makeup Tips

Also, cold and bleak temperatures cause skin conditions like eczema, xerosis, etc. Therefore, knowing the proper techniques for applying and doing makeup this winter season is indispensable to make it look refreshed and radiant.

Six such winter makeup tips are listed below to make you keep glowing this season:

    Apply an oil-based moisturizer

A thick, nourishing moisturizer is always good for your skin health, especially during cold winters when the skin becomes dehydrated. Before starting with makeup, a good hydrating moisturizer massage all over your face and neck can help you achieve a glowing complexion. You can also apply sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Make sure to moisturize the face when it’s damp after showering because it’s the actual time to give the washed skin much-needed care.

    Use the suitable primer

Choosing the suitable primer can be difficult, but always go for the luminous primer instead of the matte one because it can help boost the skin glow. Applying the primer will add another layer of hydration to your epidermis. Also, a suitable primer can help you achieve an even finish of makeup and enhance the shine. Primer enhances makeup coverage, hydrates the skin, creates a smoothing effect, and helps keep the makeup for a long time.

Switch to a dewy finish foundation

Flaky skin can lead to a patchy and uneven makeup finish. The makeup might result in getting a bit cakey. But applying a dewy and creamy finish foundation can act as a good base that will glide smoothly all over the face and help retain moisture for long hours. If you do not like the dewy finish, you may try applying some over-it powder to lessen the dewy finish but avoid using dry and matte-based foundations if you have dry skin.

    Opt for creamy formula lipsticks

In winter, creamy lipsticks fit better on flaky lips, nourishing them from the depth and smoothening down the dry lip. It will give you a balmy finish and make the lips look plumper. Glossy and creamy textured lipsticks are loaded with argan oil, which helps keep the lip moisturized. Moreover, the creamy texture will blend smoothly, making it look instantly lively and youthful.

    Add liquid highlighter

For getting a dazzling natural effect on your skin, you can apply a liquid highlighter with the help of a beauty blender on your collar bones, cheekbones, temple areas, under the brows, above the cupid’s bow, down the bridge of your nose, inner corner of your eyes. You can also mix the highlighter with your foundations or CC creams to create a natural-looking, dewy base. They are easy to use, non-sticky, transfer-proof, and dry quickly. It will compliment your whole look and contour your countenance.

     Avoid directly applying powders

One of the most important winter makeup tips is to stay away from loose powder. Directly using talcum powder on your dry and patchy skin in winter can make it look more flaky, dull, and lifeless. It might make the skin more dehydrated because it reduces the production of natural oils from the skin, and it can accentuate wrinkles and frown lines and give rise to unnatural skin. Instead, you can use a little bit of compact powder on your T-zones to set your makeup in place.

It’s essential to change the makeup routine accordingly with the seasons to ensure a smoother base and a flawless finish. Incorporating these winter makeup tips into your regular makeup routine can help you look better with a glowy and dewy makeup finish. These hacks and tips could help you achieve a perfect touch of glam to your everyday daily look with no extra effort.

These tips will be valuable for you in the long run. Moisturizing your skin before the makeup will add suppleness to your dry skin and benefit you. But before directly using any of the primer, moisturizer, or serum on your face, make sure to do a patch test since it might be harmful to your skin if you are allergic to any of the products and ingredients.

  • My Healthy Makeup Collection

    My Healthy Makeup Collection

In this post, I am sharing what’s in my makeup case. This is my current makeup collection. They’re my healthy makeup essentials. I talk about why these makeup products are healthy. I have posted each makeup product (22 makeup products) with a photo of the product, a description, and why I like the makeup product. I linked the products so you can shop for them. *This post is not sponsored.

Beauty/Makeup brands mentioned in this post:

I have listed each makeup product by category:

    • Face: foundation, concealer, powder

    • Eyes: eyeshadow, eyeliner, brow definer, mascara

    • Lips: natural lip balm

    • Beauty tools: brushes

What makes makeup products healthy? Most of my makeup products are from Physicians Formula and bareMinerals. I am allergic to a lot of chemicals found in non-natural makeup products… So I know these products are clean because they don’t bother my skin.

Here is a list of benefits of wearing Physician Formula’s products:

    “Non-irritating, non-greasy, hypoallergenic, dermatologist approved, non-comedogenic”

They specifically do not use 100 of the known ingredients in beauty products that would bother the skin.

    bareMinerals and their benefits:

They use natural ingredients, the product is non-irritating, and soothes the skin. The products do not cake or fade, and they are comfortable to wear. People with allergies and skin sensitivities can wear bareMinerals. Minerals like zinc and iron oxide in their makeup are anti-inflammatory.

I love this makeup case and travel beauty case. I started collecting so much makeup that I couldn’t fit it in my travel makeup case (the makeup bag to the left of my case in the photo.) So I decided to buy this beauty case by Caboodles! I love it. All my makeup is organized, and I have plenty of room for more makeup!

    22 Makeup Products

Here are 22 makeup products from my makeup collection. I have added a brief description of the product, why it is healthy, and why I like it.

Click on the name of the product above the description, it is linked to the company and the product in this post.

    Face Makeup

    1. Physicians Formula

I like to use this product as eyeshadow and blush. I also use it as a highlighter and to contour my face. I love the glistening colors. This is an all-in-one product. You can use it to bronze your face, use it as a blush, and you can use it as an eyeshadow. The color palette is named nude. It is dermatologist-tested! Additionally, you can use a large brush and brush over the entire palette too!

    2. bareMinerals

This is a great loose powder for your base. It is perfect over your liquid foundation. It keeps the foundation on your face for a lot longer than if you hadn’t used it. Anytime my face is sweaty, this powder covers up the sweat. I like the silkiness of the product, and it makes my face have that silky and polished look. The minerals and ingredients in the product keep your face dry yet moisturized.

    3. Physicians Formula

I love this blush, and I love all four colors to color my cheeks. You can get a really good contour with these blushes (aka rouges) using certain brushes. I use whichever colors I am in the mood for. This blush completes your face with a full look. The four shades will give you a diamond glow! I love Physicians Formula because it is hypoallergenic makeup.

    4. bareMinerals

I love this highlighter. It gives you both a dewy look and a sparkling gleam. My mood always gets better when I put on this highlighter. I am actually almost through the entire highlighter. I will need to get a new one. I do believe it is long-lasting. When they say it lasts 8 hours, it does! Their highlighter formula is mineral-based, and a dermatologist has approved their mineral formula.

    5. Crop

I love wearing this foundation. It is 97% plant-derived (like most of the products listed in this post). I love that the Crop company is making it medicinal—adding hyaluronic acid and vitamin E to the foundation. It covers the skin very well and is light and breathable. This is a perfect foundation. It is Australian-owned. You can order it online, and it is sold in stores worldwide. My skin has definitely improved after wearing it.

    6. Physicians Formula

Organic tinted moisturizer works like a foundation; it gives full coverage. This product is 100% natural in origin and 70% organic. I have used this product for years. The shade is a little dark for me because they sell it as two shades– mixing light and medium shades together, but I don’t care. I love it so much. It has a midweight to lightweight feel. It has a blend of proteins and antioxidants! Some of the ingredients are kale, carrot, lemon, and quinoa protein. The foundation helps with skin elasticity. I have noticed when I wear it I look younger than when I am not wearing it.

    7. Physicians Formula

This hypoallergenic concealer has a rich pigment, so it covers acne and skin so well. I use it under my eyes and on any acne or any redness that I have. I love it. It color corrects, so I notice when I wear it, it helps my skin tone. I love the way this product lasts a long time. I always look “instaready” when I use this concealer.

    Eye Makeup

    8. bareMinerals

I love this multi-palette copper eyeshadow palette. It is great to wear day or night. This powder eyeshadow comes in different finishes—matte, satin, and metallic. It definitely makes me look more attractive. I love the colors and the aesthetics of this palette. It is a very modern color palette and timeless. This product is ophthalmologist tested!

    9. Physicians Formula

I love the silky and smooth texture of these gel liners. Eyelining eyes always make me feel beautiful, and I feel more inspired when I wear them. For some reason, I have more energy when I wear eyeliner. Especially when I draw winged eyeliner. I love the fact that this product is fragrance-free. I am allergic to most synthetic fragrances. I love the minerals added to this liner, and it is known that mineral makeup is safer to wear. This product is also ophthalmologist and dermatologist-approved!

    10. Kora Organics

I love this highlighter called Luminizer. It is crystal-infused and made with amethyst crystal powder! I can feel the crystal powder working on my face. The crystal powder has healing properties and cleans and energizes the face and body when you wear it. The colors are ethereal-looking. I couldn’t find the amethyst Luminizer, but they have the rose quartz Luminizer available, and it looks amazing! I usually wear Luminizer on my cheeks and eyes. Kora Organics is certified organic by Ecocert!

    11. Physicians Formula

I love this product. It is an “instaready” eyeshadow palette. I love neutral shades, so I love camel, metallic browns, whites, and cream eyeshadow colors. It is a multi-finish palette, so you can use one or several of the eyeshadow colors together. You can go really light or go really dark– for example, you can make smoky eyes with this eyeshadow color palette.

    12. Physicians Formula

This mascara I have used for years. The black color is extra black, and it makes your eyelashes thick. This product is 100% natural in origin and 70% organic! This mascara is waterproof. It has a blend of protein and antioxidants like kale, carrots, and quinoa. It is definitely long-lasting; I always have to wash it off at night because it is still on my lashes at night.

    13. Physicians Formula

This is another mascara I have used for years. It makes the lashes a bit lighter and thinner when I am in the mood for that kind of lash. I love the way they have added healthy ingredients like their “organic lash boosting complex” and organic olive oil extract. Additional healthy ingredients they have added to the mascara are jojoba, cucumber, aloe, beeswax, and more!

    14. Physicians Formula

The brow gel by Physicians Formula is another one of the products I have been using for years. I love all of their brow products. They last all day. You have to use makeup remover or facewash to remove the brow gel. It is that long-lasting. It is waterproof and smudge-proof. However, if you mess up, you can easily wipe it off the skin. I love how this product is fragrance-free and paraben-free.

    15. Physicians Formula

This is a really silky and smooth eye primer. It glides on very easily, and it has an alluring glow. Both the colors, the pink and the cream, are really lovely. After it dries, it is smudge-resistant. It is hypoallergenic and made for sensitive eyes. It is non-comedogenic, which means it does not block pores.

    16. Physicians Formula

These eyeliners I have used for years. This is a long-lasting eyeliner. I will typically use the black color the most because I love black eyeliner. It is definitely a part of “makeup design” to wear eyeliner. They make my eyes look better too.

    17. Sephora

I like the way this liner has a felt tip. It really makes you feel like an artist when you are using eyeliner on your eyes with this felt-tipped liner. It is definitely long-lasting. I feel much more sophisticated when I wear eyeliner.

    Lip Makeup

    18. Sky Organics

I don’t use lipstick because of its taste and lack of moisture. I love these moisturizing tinted lip balms. The texture is silky and smooth with glistening shimmering color. They use healing, healthy ingredients like castor, argan, and coconut oils. Every color I love, and they are long-lasting. I love the way the packs come in four different colors; you can wear whichever one you are in the mood for.

    Makeup Brushes

    19. EcoTools

I love these natural eyeshadow brushes. I love the handle of them. They are made of bamboo wood. This is a nice brush set. The brushes are so soft against my eyes that it is therapeutic.

    20. EcoTools

This is the greatest beauty tool I have ever owned. I hated putting on makeup foundation with my fingers or sponges. I love how the sponge is attached to a “wand.” It is so much cleaner and easier to put on my makeup. You can wash it with water and soap and reuse it. The link above has a 6 pack of these foam applicator brushes, but I have used one single foam brush for a while. You just need to make sure you use some hydrogen peroxide to kill any bacteria and germs.

    21. CALA

I love this brush set. And it is travel-friendly with the travel case. I don’t need to only travel with it, I can put it in my beauty case, and I don’t need to buy a brush case for the brushes, I can just use the travel case. I bought these brushes because of the metallic purple color. These brushes are for the eyes. I have a brush kit for the face, but I did not post it in this post.

    22. Sephora

I have not even used this brush yet, but I am going to ASAP. It is very thin and angled for the specific lining of the eye.

The Virgo In Me Felt Complete When I Found This Makeup Brush Organizer

*We’re committed to transparency. Products marked with an asterisk were given to us to try by the brand. As always, all thoughts expressed on Rouge18 are our honest opinions.

Eyeshadow is my absolute favorite beauty product, so naturally I own 84 eye brushes (actually… I counted).

I used to throw them all in a cup or mug, but it ended up taking so much time to find the exact type of brush I was looking for. That’s when I embarked on a mission to find 1) a makeup brush organizer with dividers to organize my brushes by type, and 2) the right makeup organization system for ease of use.

My acrylic storage in shining armor was a 6-slot organizer from Muji. It’s no longer available, but you can find a ton of other organizers of similar shape to fit your needs at Muji or on Amazon.

Here’s my system for organizing my brushes.

Front Slot 1: I organize my brushes from largest/fluffiest to most detail-oriented. So slot #1 contains all my big, fluffy blending brushes. These are the brushes I use in every look for transition and crease shades. My favorite brush in this slot—I actually have 3 of them—is the Sigma E35 Tapered Blending Brush.

Front Slot 2: Next, I have all of my detail blending brushes. These brushes are fluffy, but smaller (fewer bristles) and denser (bristles packed tighter together). They deposit more color than bigger brushes, but don’t diffuse shadows quite as much, by design. These brushes are great for deepening the crease or outer v or for just blending in smaller areas. They’re also great if you have small eyes, and typical blending brushes don’t work well for you.

My favorite detail blending brushes are the Sigma E36 Blending BrushMorphe M514 Detail Round Blender, and Sigma E27 Detail Blending Brush.

Front Slot 3: Slot 3 is home to my packing/shader brushes. These brushes are flat and dense to deposit intense color on the lids. My absolute favorite shader brush is the Sigma E55 Eye Shading Brush, of which I own 2. I also like the Sigma E21 Smudge Brush for detail shading and Sigma E58 Cream Color Brush for cream shadows.

Front Slot 4: This slot is one of the most exciting ones! Slot 4 is where I keep all of my detailing liner brushes, angle or definer brushes, glitter tools, and brow brushes. When I use a cake liner or when I need to do detail line work, I reach for one of the fine liners from Suva Beauty, my favorite being the Suva Beauty Six Thirty Liner Brush.

My secret to smooth concealer/primer application for a half cut crease is to use the spade side of the NYX Dual Silicone Applicator. It’s silicone, so it applies liquid products opaquely and the spade shape of the brush mirrors the shape of the inner corner of the eye. I also use this brush and other silicone brushes, like the Sephora Collection Give Me Glitter Applicators, for applying glitter or very glittery shimmer shadows. Silicone is easy to clean; just wipe off any remaining product. And, now, you don’t have to worry about glitter particles getting stuck in brush hairs of your traditional brushes.

Rear Slot 1: The slots in the back are where I keep bigger brushes I use less frequently. Rear slot #1 contains all my face brushes. From time to time, I wear foundation or highlight, so I keep these brushes around for that. A big fluffy face brush is also useful for brushing off eyeshadow fallout from your face. I also keep my disposable lipstick wands in a double shot glass in this slot.

Rear Slot 2: Finally, the last back slot is where I keep concealer/foundation brushes I use to apply eyeshadow primer. My favorites are the Sigma F65 Large Concealer Brush and *Ecotools Class Foundation Brush from their Blooming Beauty Kit.

While this system might seem very involved, it makes doing my makeup in the morning so much easier and faster when I know where everything is!

How do you like to organize your brushes? Did you find any of these tips helpful? Let us know in the comments!

  • 10 Makeup Items I Reach For Everyday & Would Never Be Without – The Anna Edit

10 Makeup Items I Reach For Everyday & Would Never Be Without – The Anna Edit

    The Holy-Grail beauty round-up…

This post contains ad affiliate links (denoted by a ‘*’) & gifted items (denoted by ‘ad – gifted). You can read my full disclaimer here.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a beauty update of sorts around these parts, so I thought I would do a mega one today and a good one to bookmark for later incase you’re ever in the market for my top, top, top beauty recommendations. I don’t wear makeup every single day, but I have bizarrely found that since having a baby I’ve worn it more. Maybe it’s the lack of sleep, or perhaps it’s the fact that just a little bit of makeup ‘icing‘ makes me feel a little more put-together for my umpteen pushchair outings a day to the swings, but I weirdly get more done – both personally and professionally – when I’ve properly got ready in the mornings. Here’s what I reach for the most…

*Glossier Futuredew – This stuff. This stuff!! It’s a hard one to describe, but it’s just the ultimate primer/mix in with your foundation formula, if you’re someone like me who really doesn’t mind a bit of grease. For the oilier skinned among us this will be way too heavy, but if you’re combination or dry then this will be your new best friend. Go easy with it! One pump is all your need applied all over on SPF-ed skin, or mixed in with your chosen base. The other day I felt dry so I applied a tiny bit on my face as a highlighter with my hands and BAM, then there was glow.

*NARS Light Reflecting Foundation in Salzburg (ad – gifted) – I know I tend to flit around with foundations a bit and I have a few in my stash that I cycle between, but at the moment I am just LOVING this foundation. It’s creamy and dewy and long-lasting and just exactly what I need right now. It’s a little more covering that what I usually use, but because of that I can use just one tiny little pump for all-over applied with fingers for a natural look, or built up with a brush when I need a bit more. Love the versatility.

*Glossier Stretch Concealer in G10 – There’s just something about a potted cream concealer. Something really creamy and high-shine that just glides under the eyes and might not necessarily be the most covering, but is certainly up there when it comes to brightening properties. For me, the Glossier is just the blueprint when it comes to this. There were a few months there when I definitely needed something with more coverage, but I’m back to being able to just press this under my eyes and around my nose to even things out a little on no makeup, makeup days.

*DIOR Forever Skin Correct in 2NYep, a second concealer. During the newborn days I really, truly understood the need for actual proper coverage, and this has just that. I keep this on hand for times when the Glossier just doesn’t cut it, plus I like using it too on it’s own taken under the eyes, around the nose, across the cheeks and a little and on my chin. It’s a great medium coverage formula, that isn’t drying or heavy at all. Perfect for when I’m in a bit of a rush.

*CHANEL Les Beiges Oversized Healthy Glow Sun-Kissed Powder in Sunshine Light (ad – gifted) – Although this very large, gigantic bronzer is very wonderful, to be fair most bronzers I own could be swapped into this category. I’m not too fussed as long as the tone is right and the formula is either creamy or a powder that isn’t overly powdery. I have to say at the moment I’m enjoying the speed and longevity of a powder and one that has the tiniest amount of ‘glow’ to it to work as a bit of a blurrer/finishing powder gets my vote – hence why this is winning right now. The *KOSAS The Sun Show Baked Bronzer in Light Soft Bronze is a good dupe actually.

*Patrick Ta Major Brow Lamination Gel – It’s just the best. It really is. I don’t do anything to my brows these days, except for see the brilliant Clare from Perfect Brows Brighton every month and let her work her magic. I never fill them in or touch them aside from to put a slick of this on every morning. It’s the only product for me that actually holds my brows in an upright position from AM to PM, although to be warned that you can’t go anywhere near them for the duration of the day as any contact results in little white annoying pieces of product sitting in your brows. Aside from that, it’s perfect.

*Armani Beauty Eye Tint in 24 (ad – gifted) – When I was writing this post I panicked that I was just about to run out and didn’t have a back-up so I just bought another two tubes online because I just can’t be without this stuff. For my skin tone it’s the perfect ‘barely there/I’m not really wearing eyeshadow‘ eyeshadow. I love that I can apply it in about 10 seconds flat for each eye – I tend to wipe it on from the applicator and then do a quick blend with a fluffy brush – and it doesn’t crease horrendously if I don’t bother to use a primer. I just love the colour and wouldn’t want to be without it.

*Armani Beauty Eyes To Kill WET Waterproof Mascara – I was first introduced to this formula a few years back when I did a piece of work with Armani and it’s just the mascara that I always go back too. Although there might be others in my collection that give more volume and length, this one holds a curl which is my ultimate mascara MUST-DO and gives a more fluttery, natural look to my lashes. But it can be built up too if I have the time or inclination. Basically it’s a good multitasker that I like to have in my makeup bag at all times.

*Augustinus Bader The Lip Balm (ad – gifted) – I toy around with lip products, balms, glosses and colours, but really at heart I’m just a lip balm kinda gal. I might like to play around with colour if I’m in London for the day, or out with friends, but on days where I’m at my desk or just trying to kiss Ralph as he tries to escape then I just need some good ol’ fashioned moisture on my lips. It’s a very boujee choice, but it’s Mark’s favourite too! A little treat twice a year that makes us feel oh so fancy whenever we apply it.

I’m going to cheat a little bit here and say that for my tenth pick, I’d pick ‘TOOLS’. I use the same makeup brushes and tools day in day out. First I apply my base with my fingers, a Beauty Pie Sponge*, or most likely the Westman Atelier Blender Brush*. This brush was a huge investment for me a few years back when it was first launched, but it still looks brand new, washes up so well and just the right size and density for me to apply foundation or concealer (the Beauty Pie Seamless Foundation Buffing Brush* is a good dupe too!). Then I use the ZOEVA Luxe Grand Powder 90 Brush* for my bronzer, I curl my lashes with the Surratt Eyelash Curler*, and use a ZOEVA 223 Luxe Crease Brush* for any eyeshadows. Three brushes, one tool, one sponge just incase – sorted.

These are the products used for my Trinny London makeup glow-up

Not only did I get to meet Trinny Woodall on her recent trip to Australia and have her prescribe a skincare routine for me, below is a video of the products Trinny’s makeup artist John Corcoran used to to create my Trinny London makeup glow-up.

If you’ve landed on this post via a random Internet search, WELCOME. I’ve been a customer of Trinny London since 2018 and have written quite a few posts about the products I love and use on a regular basis. You can back track from this post.

Over the years, I’ve chosen and added to cart A LOT of Trinny London makeup products based on my Match2Me survey results and an online consultation (if you’re in Sydney and Melbourne you can now book an in-person appointment).

At first I stuck to the letter of my Match2Me recommendations … and then I went a bit rogue, in particular with the foundation products. Just watch the look on Trinny’s face when she finds out what shade of BFF I’ve been buying. HAH

Ok, so now I’m back on track and behaving – well I will be once I get through my current stash of BFF and BFF De-Stress.

The reason I was going rogue and buying a darker shade was because I spray tan regularly (no Trinny wasn’t a fan of that!) and was trying to match that. I don’t tan my face but do need to build a makeup look that blends with my spray-tanned neck colour.

What I learned in a few short minutes – from Trinny and Trinny London makeup artist John Corcoran was that by going darker with my base products, I was “flattening” my face instead of allowing it to glow.

They said for the glow of your natural skin to show through, it was important to stick to base products that tone with your natural skin colour and THEN build in a depth of colour using bronzer – in this case Golden Glow (Gaia).

What I also found interesting and had not previously thought to try was the mixing of BFF De-Stress (a tinted serum) with BFF Rebalance (a serum-foundation). This could just be the combination I’ve been looking for to creates a fresh complexion while balancing shine and sticking to my face in a humid Queensland summer. Both of these products contain products that help the skin while at the same time building an even complexion.

More than anything, with makeup it’s an even complexion that will help you to look and feel fresh as your skin ages. And I’m never going pack to powder products for my everyday makeup looks – cream-based products are definitely the go on typically dry peri and menopausal skin. They also don’t “cake” in any lines and wrinkles.

  • My Go-To Bright Eyeshadow makeup perfect for Festival Season

My Go-To Bright Eyeshadow makeup perfect for Festival Season

#AD. This post is in conjunction with Boots UK but all thoughts are my own

Festival season is back and although we don’t need an excuse to wear a bright eyeshadow, I do think that a festival is the perfect opportunity, especially if you want to do something fun but are looking for an alternative to the usual festival sequins and glitter.

You can go all out with multicolored rainbow eyes, but a single bright coloured eye look is my personal favorite of the festival makeup essentials so I thought I would show you my take as it’s one I’ve been wearing for a few years.

As with any makeup look skincare is very important and since festivals are largely spent outdoors a good Factor 50 Sun Cream is essential, I personally have been reaching for UltraSun Face SPF50+.

Onto the makeup itself and I think the Morphy X James Charles palette is perfect for this sort of look as it has a large range of shades and is very pigmented. I went for orange (shade 518) as I think it’s a slightly easier to wear colour but pink, purple and green are also great options. The key to this look is to start by blending the colour into your crease and then really packing on the same colour onto the lid. It’s a technique I often use even with more bronzer/shimmery shades as I think it offers a much cooler effortless look.

To contrast with the bright bold eye, I wanted to keep the rest of my makeup looking quite fresh which is where the NARS Light reflecting Foundation comes in which is beautiful and melts seamlessly into the skin and added a touch of the Revolution Conceal & Hydrate concealer under my eyes.

To add glow and shape back to my face I opted for the Fenty Cheeks Out Cream Bronzer in Macchiato and the Fenty Check Out Cream Blush in Fenty glow. Followed by a little NYX Thick It. Stick It. through my brows and a generous coating of mascara.

Finally, to finish everything off I set the makeup with some Fenty Pro Filt’r Powder, a few sprays of the Urban Decay Vitamin C Setting Spray and swipe of the Fenty Gloss Bomb in Fenty Glow over my lips.

No festival look is complete without a spritz of dry shampoo and of course I added a wave to my hair.

Have you tried a bright eyeshadow look or are you more of a glitter and sequins festival go-er?

What Makeup Brands Make You Feel Nostalgic?

    All the feels!

In the comments yesterday, Nina and I (hey, Nina!) were chatting about department store brands from back in the day. I got to thinking about all the beauty brands at the counters in the mall that make me feel nostalgic. I have so many good memories of walking into the New Park Mall in Newark and seeing all the gorgeous, glittering products displayed at Macy’s.

My favorites back then were Clinique, MAC and Prescriptives… Remember Prescriptives? I wore their foundation and powder for a couple years. I was all about their perfume Calyx, too.

I also liked popping by Origins for their body products and Estee Lauder for their perfumes.

When I think of Clinique, I remember the Clinique counter that was in the bookstore at my college in Davis. Yup, you could pop in for an organic chemistry book and pay for it at the Clinique counter just as long as you bought some makeup or skin care. I’d stock up on my favorites: a taupe pencil liner (I wish I could remember the name, ugh!), Black Honey lipstick (the OG), loose powder and a taupe eyeshadow called Fawn Satin.

If I wanted to grab lipstick or lip liner from MAC, I’d have to drive to Sacramento to the Arden Fair mall. I still remember the tiny little counter tucked in the corner and buying a tube of Paramount lipstick and Mahogany liner.

    Hello, old friends.

Oh, and the perfumes! Goodness gracious. Estee Lauder Pleasures, Clinique Happy and MAC Turqoatic were my jams back in the day.

What makeup brands make you feel nostalgic? Please share in the comments.

    Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

    Karen

P.S. Hope your week is going great so far. We’ve reached the hump. Friday is just around the corner, woo hoo!

List of Cruelty Free Makeup Brands: Why Buying Cruelty Free Matters | My Beauty Bunny
